As I was getting back into my running routine I was striving so hard to lose weight that I was forgetting how important it is to have fuel before your workouts. Have you ever gotten that feeling in your stomach where you are just so hungry it hurts therefore causes you to think you aren't hungry? Confusing I know but that is sometimes how I feel..especially if I try to go run before eating anything in the mornings.
I remember in college our softball team would be punished & the punishment would almost always be running... that is running @ 5am! I would set my alarm & literally throw on my clothes & walk out the door... We would run laps around the campus & by the 3rd lap my stomach would get this achy feeling & almost burning feeling to it.... I was already physically tired... this is caused by lack of fuel! If I would have just grabbed a granola bar or apple as I was walking out the door I would have felt so much better. So many times people tend to make this same mistake. They think if they don't eat anything then.. 1. they won't have anything to throw back up...2. they feel lighter...3. they think can burn more calories.
Unfortunately this is completely wrong. You need Pre-workout fuel in order to maximize your workouts & rebuild muscle! I am the first person to tell you that I cannot eat a full meal before a workout, however, I have learned I need just something to get me through. Here are some ideas on what you can have as a pre-workout fuel.
Apple w/peanut butter.
1/2 energy bar.
Chocolate Milk.
Toast w/peanut or almond butter.
Arbonne protein shake.
Advocare Spark & granola bar.
Arbonne protein bar (ask me for recipe!).
Scrambled Eggs.
Whole grain English Muffin w/almond butter.
Orange Juice (organic if you prefer) mixed w/water & Arbonne's Fiber Booster.
